Fencing

No previous fencing experience required. Join a sport steeped in tradition and fun for youth and adults alike. Fencing teaches discipline, etiquette and sportsmanship. 



Each session offers guided instruction with the sabre; emphasizing safety, strategy, coordination, agility and footwork. The first five sessions focus on safety, technique and drills. Latter sessions offer fencers opportunities to apply their skills in controlled duels led in accordance to standardized fencing rules. 



All participants will be required to pay a $10 fee become a Member of the United States Fencing Association.


General Information
  • Classes led by Tung-Shan "Fritz" Chang
  • Refunds will not be offered for any reason, including illness, injury or non-enjoyment of the program.
  • Make up sessions will not be offered for sessions missed as a result of the aforementioned reasons.
  • Please wear long athletic pants and sneakers.
  • No jeans or cargo pants.
  • Participants will require a fencing mask and gloves. Equipment will not be required for the first session of class. Mask and glove specifications will be discussed during the first session of class.

Instructor Information
Fritz Chang has been teaching fencing to adults and children in the Boston area for more than 30 years. A competitive member of the USFA (United States Fencing Association) he competes in local, national and international tournaments. Since 2008, Fritz has represented the U.S. three times at the Veterans Fencing World Championships, winning a bronze medal in foil at the 2009 Veterans Fencing World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
